Across America #2

If I can be honest. I want the world to know that I’m scared. I’m scared because my perception of Africa has changed. I’m scared because I’m about to walk back into reality. Not away from it. Lots of thoughts as I start getting ready to head back to Kenya. But for now I’m staving off the inevitable with one more quick getaway with my dad to the Grand Canyon and Vegas. Normally, I would blather on about Native Americans, and how fascinating and resilient I think they are. How I wish I could track down my genealogy and figure what tribe 1/16 of me might belong to. How much I love nature. How if I could do anything with my life right now, I would rather be hiding in the woods working in a garden.

But there are too many scatterbrains to collect thoughts at this point, let alone words… so I’ll let the Beatles speak for me.

“Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace

You, you may say
I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world

You, you may say
I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as one”

-Beatles
